how "pinned" works?

    I was in process of starting to build out my talkyard. I have a category of "SOFTWARE" with a sub-category of "LaundryLog"

    I created several topics, each of which happens to have been made a wiki as well. I set the "LaundryLog — Start Here: What It Is and Why I Built It" as pinned. So I was surprised when I went to the category and the "pinned" topic was at the bottom.

    Is my expectation that a pinned topic should be listed first incorrect or is this a bug or is my understanding of a pinned topic incorrect?

        Update on this a couple hours later. The pinned topic is now showing up top. Maybe there was cache or delay of some kind?

        1. It looks as if only the Active sort order cares about pins. Hmm. But not the Popular and Newest sort orders.

          Maybe I was thinking that if one changes sort order to Popular, or to Newest, then one doesn't want to see the pinned topics any longer. (Sometimes there's more than one pinned topic.) But on the other hand it's a bit confusing when they "disappear".

          Update on this a couple hours later. The pinned topic is now showing up top

          That's with the Active first sort order?

            @KajMagnus
            After working some more with Talkyard and adding topics and posts and categories, I was again experiencing the issue with the pinned content not being at the top when I was expecting it to be. Since you have replied and questioned on this, it seems you are actually interested in maybe doing something about this issue (which might actually just be my expectation). As such, let me create some more detailed investigation and when and what is happening for you so the issue is more detailed and defined. I am actively building out the forum right now so I should have better data for you this week :)

                was just working on adding a post and experienced where the pinned topic was not at the top where i expected it to be.
                screen capture link
                So this was reviewing the topic post I had just added and reading it over. I clicked the breadcrumb trail navigation to go to the sub-category, and the settings are shown, which i assume are default and the listing has the pinned topic at the bottom.

                    After some more usage, I think I am seeing this as when i navigate using the category breadcrumb links. I clicked on the main category then the all for the list and selected the sub-category. I got this:

                    which has the pinned README at the bottom of the list. Being pinned, I am expecting it to be the first post.
                    So it seems to default to the Popular sort when i navigate like so. New also has the pinned at the bottom. Clicking to active does show the pinned topic first.

                    So the question might be is this the intended behavior? Is there an option to change this as a preference? If not, would that be a feature request? Are there other settings or solutions that would allow the forum to behave as I expect it to in regards to the default sort, pinned item location, etc. ?
