How to delete your own personal data (GDPR)
Alternative 1
(This, alternative 1, is not yet implemented.)
If you'd just want to get dis-associated with some specific posts of yours, then, go to those posts, and, in the ☰ dropdown below each such post, click Toggle anonymous .... Then, change the author of that post, to anonymous. The forum admins and moderators can still see it's you (if they really want to) but not other members.
Alternative 2
The simplest way to delete your personal data is to just edit it and change it to something anonymous, e.g. change your username to "anonNNNN" where NNNN could be a random number (since usernames need to be unique). And delete your full name, remove your profile picture etc.
- Click your username (in the upper corner).
- Click Preferences, then About
- Edit your personal data:
- Delete your full name,
- Change your username to, for example,
anonNNN
wheerNNN
is a random number. Make a note of this new username somewhere, so you can still log in (if you login via username and password). - Maybe change your email address to a different but more anonymous address of yours. Other forum members cannot see your email address though (only forum admins and sometimes moderators).
- Empty the About text, if any.
- Remove any website URL of yours.
- Replace your profile picture with a color square maybe?
- Click Save.
Alternative 3 (danger!)
You can delete your whole user account. You won't be able to log in again.
This will delete your name, username, email address etcetera. Your username will change to anonNNNN
where NNNN
is a random number. This will not delete any posts you've submitted, so if you want some of them deleted, you'd need to delete them, first.
To delete your user account:
Warning: This destroys your user account !
- Click your username (in the upper corner).
- Click Preferences, then Account (not About)
- Scroll down to Danger Zone and click Delete Account.
